Fundraising Bicycle Ride - September 2012
I want to once again thank everyone for your generosity to the Mountain Region Speech and Hearing Center in supporting my fundraising bicycle ride last year.
I had not intended to make another fundraising bike ride this year, but several weeks ago changed my mind for a couple of reasons. First of all, my good friend and frequent cycling partner Allen Booth was enthused by my long distance ride last year, as were a couple of other friends who expressed an interest in joining in on any future such rides. Allen suggested that he and I do a distance ride for raising more funds for Mountain Region Speech and Hearing, and suggested the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway as the route. I was immediately hooked, and the plans are being undertaken.
Secondly, while the $23,000 we raised last year helped considerably, the center is still in significant need of funds. We hope that with another cycling fundraiser, with additional persons aiding in requesting donations, we may make another substantial stride toward our financial goals. Once again, then, we are asking for your help.
Allen and I plan to begin our ride on September 7, 2012 and take about nine days to finish. The parkway is about 470 miles long, and will involve about 48,000 feet of climbing. Allen has suggested that donors might pledge on a per-feet-of-climbing basis, since more of our effort will be expended by going up than by going forward; I'm in complete agreement. Thus gifts in multiples of 48, such as $24, $48, $72, or $96 could be pledged. Also, of course, pledges and gifts in any amount are welcomed with our gratitude and thankfulness on behalf of our patients.
Pledges and donations can be mailed to the Mountain Region Speech and Hearing Center, 301 Louis Street, Ste. 101, Kingsport, TN, 37660. We are very grateful for donations in any amount.
